This Privacy Policy explains how TempFile collects, uses, and protects information when you use our temporary file sharing service.
1. Who we are
TempFile ("we", "us") operates a web-based service that lets users upload files and share them through time-limited links.
2. Information we collect
Account data: If you register, we store a username and a hashed password. We do not require an email address unless you choose to provide one in the future.
Upload metadata: We store file names, sizes, upload timestamps, retention settings, optional download limits, share tokens, and whether a file is password-protected or encrypted.
Uploaded files: File content is stored on our servers for the retention period you select, then deleted according to our retention and cleanup rules.
Technical data: We may process IP addresses, browser type, and request logs for security, abuse prevention, and service operation. Guest sessions may use a browser cookie to associate uploads with a guest identifier.
3. How we use information
We use collected information to provide the service, authenticate users, generate share links, enforce retention and download limits, detect abuse, and maintain security.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use uploaded files for advertising or unrelated profiling.
4. Password-protected uploads
If you enable password protection, files may be encrypted before storage. Passwords are used to derive encryption keys and are not stored in plain text. If you lose the password, we cannot recover encrypted files.
5. Retention and deletion
Files and associated metadata are deleted when they expire, when you delete them, when a download limit is reached (if configured), or when we remove content for legal or policy reasons.
Account data remains until you delete your account or we remove it in accordance with this policy.
6. Legal bases (EEA users)
Where the GDPR applies, we process data based on: (a) performance of a contract (providing the service you request); (b) legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, service improvement); and (c) legal obligations where required.
7. Your rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object to certain processing or request data portability.
To exercise these rights, contact privacy@tempfile.example (replace with your operational contact address). You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
8. International transfers
If data is processed outside your country, we take appropriate safeguards as required by applicable law.
9. Children
TempFile is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us so we can delete it.
10. Changes
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date on this page.
